Curs Online Radioastronomie Romania-Hong Kong
Curs online de radio-astronomie se va desfasura in perioada 10 Martie - 07 Aprilie. Cursul este organizat de dr Tiberiu Harko, dr Jeffrey Hodgson, dr Chun-Sing Leung si dr. Gabriela Mocanu.
Cursul este gratuit si se adreseaza studentilor (dar si absolventilor de facultate) de discipline cu profil real interesati sa isi dezvolte abilitati teoretice si practice in radio-astronomie. Limba de predare va fi exclusiv limba engleza.
Cursurile vor avea loc online vinerea 11-12:30 am (ora Romaniei) in zilele de 10, 17, 24, 31 Martie si 7 Aprilie.
Inscrierea va fi deschisa pana pe data de 08 martie 2023 si se face urmand instructiunile din linkul de mai jos.

Lecture on March 10th
Radio astronomy basics and some concepts. In the first lecture, I will introduce some terminology and simple calculations in terms of basic concept for radio astronomy.

Small single dish radio astronomy online observation and simple data processing with Python. For the second lecture, I will try to show online single dish radio observations and simple radio data processing.

A general background to radio interferometry and its history, hands-on tutorial with real data and image reconstruction.

Lecture on March 31st
Going forwards in time: measuring apparent superluminal motions in quasars, and if time permits, attempting to image the black-hole ring.
Requirements: Difmap. An imaging software that runs on Linux. People running Linux or Mac can install it directly. Windows users will need to either run Linux through a VM or use Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2).
